The Little Things

The Little Things

It really is the little things in life that make it so great. This weekend was Memorial day weekend and as everyone and their families got together to hang out, have fun, and be sociable some of us took time to remember what Memorial day is about, and that is honoring those who have served that never made it back home to their families and those who have made it back but are no longer with us today. We remember and pay tribute to those who paid with their life for our freedom and to have the privilege of turning memorial day into a “beginning of summer” party so to speak. They gave their life so we can have ours, safe from fear or harm from war or terror. For that, I raise my glass to those who have fallen and thank you for allowing me and my family enjoy the little things most of us take for granted.

Now to the little things I am talking about. This weekend was very eventful for sure. Not only did I get to spend some good time with my family and friends, I was able to drive for Uber during Bottlerock Festival in Napa, CA. Now I didn’t do as well as I would have hoped, but what I did manage to bring in will surely help. The thing that I enjoyed the most is the time I was able to spend with my wife and daughter. The frosting on the cake is that we spent a considerable amount of time with our best friends and their children as well. You see these friends are two amazing people. They are very sociable, outgoing, and kind. They invited Snow, Mandy and me over for a BBQ lunch for a birthday and to enjoy their new backyard. They recently had new concrete poured and artificial turf put in and it is night and day better and the kids love it! We are so blessed to have them as friends and they are the reason I had a chance to drive for Uber this weekend. Snow and their toddler get along so well. They really are the best of friends. I am really grateful to have their family in our lives.

So back to the BBQ birthday, we pretty much stayed at our friend’s house all day long, just hanging out having a good time enjoying each others company and watching the kids run around crazy in the backyard. Just seeing how happy they were just playing and running around made my heart melt and I thought to myself, “this is why people have kids.” For moments like this, I can’t even fully explain how wonderful it was to feel like everything is how it should be, or how you want it to be. The little things right? We had lunch which was a smorgasbord of tasty meats including two perfectly smoked tri-tips and delectably grilled bacon wrapped asparagus and pineapple. The weather was perfect, they food was perfect and everyone had a wonderful time celebrating our friend’s birthday!

Not much to update with Mandy except that she is starting to show a little more every day! She can feel the baby move inside her, but I can’t feel anything from the outside yet. The intended parents are out on vacation and by the time they get back, it should be apparent that Mandy is pregnant and I can’t wait to see their reaction! I am so very happy that my wife is a surrogate for this wonderful couple and I am excited to see them start their family. Mandy has her first ever prenatal massage coming up and she is so excited for it and I can’t wait to tell you about it! Well, I think that is it for today. I hope that you had a great Memorial Day weekend and I hope to see you next time!

Buff” is today’s daily prompt.
